Our Mission
The mission of New Orleans Outreach is to improve the quality of public education at our partner schools. We do this by linking volunteers and community resources through programs that respond to the needs of each school.
New Orleans Outreach gives public school students access to meaningful experiences that increase academic success, develop skills, and inspire them to participate fully in community life.
Outreach recruits, trains, and places teachers, artists and volunteers in the classroom during the school day, after school, and in the summer.
- New Orleans Outreach directly enriches children’s education. Last school year, 1,141 students benefited from volunteers and other partners serving as teacher assistants, tutors, mentors, job-site hosts, afterschool instructors, and special workshop leaders at four school sites. In addition, 360 students benefited from a high-quality, free summer school/camp at three sites.
- New Orleans Outreach builds the capacity of schools to educate children effectively. Outreach improves schools by bringing direct
help into the classroom to reduce student/teacher ratios, creating afterschool programs,
and providing a range of other programming for students through community partnerships with more than 20 outside organizations.
- New Orleans Outreach increases support for, and involvement in, public education. Our volunteers and partner organizations develop relationships with students, teachers, and their schools and become more committed to improving public education. Outreach volunteers and partner organizations contributed more than 40,000 hours of service to children in four school sites during the ’06-07 school year and summer.
